Our Beginnings
history
Redeemer Lutheran Church of Mandeville, Louisiana was initially organized in August, 2001 as a daughter church of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Metairie, Louisiana. Our first church service was held on Sunday, August 26, 2001. The name Mt. Olive Lutheran - Northshore was originally used until a permanent name could be chosen. The Reverend Louis E. Nelsen, Jr. came out of retirement for a third time to help this new congregation get off the ground. Early in 2004 the name Redeemer Lutheran Church was officially adopted. And on December 5, 2004 the Rev. Kurtis Schultz, President of the Southern District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod received Redeemer Lutheran Church into full membership of the Southern District, and the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. On February 20th, 2005 the Voter's Assembly unanimously Called the Rev. Barrett R. Buchmueller, who was serving as the Associate Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Michigan to be her first full-time pastor. Pastor Buchmueller officially accepted the Call to serve Redeemer on March 13, 2005 and was officially installed by President Schultz on May 15, 2005.
